The Smith & Wesson M&P is a polymer framed, short recoil operated, locked breech semi-automatic pistol introduced in the summer of 2005 by the American company Smith & Wesson. Most variants use a Browning-type locking system, while the 5.7x28mm variant instead uses a rotating barrel with a muzzle booster. Though aimed at law enforcement agencies, the M&P is also sold widely on the civilian commercial market.
