Steyr Scout

Small Arms And Sidearms

The Steyr Scout is an Austrian bolt-action rifle created by Jeff Cooper together with Steyr Arms and Steyr Mannlicher, designed during the 1990s, entering production in 1997, and reaching service in 1999 as an embodiment of Cooper's scout rifle concept, which prioritizes versatility and practical field performance over specialization. Chambered primarily in 7.62 NATO (.308 Winchester) with other caliber options available, it is built mainly from polymers with an aluminum receiver and a hammer-forged, fluted barrel to keep weight down, and it uses removable box magazines with a magazine cut-off mechanism. The rifle is designed for accuracy out to about 800 meters and features a top-mounted integral Weaver rail for scope mounting in either conventional or forward scout-scope configurations, reserve flip-up ghost-ring iron sights, an integral folding bipod, and a spare magazine stored in the buttstock.
