Austen submachine gun

The Austen submachine gun was a 9 millimeter Parabellum weapon produced in Australia during the Second World War, manufactured by Diecasters Ltd in Melbourne and W. T. Carmichael Ltd in Sydney between 1942 and 1945. Its name comes from Australian Sten, and its design borrowed the barrel, body and trigger mechanism from the British Sten gun while adopting the folding stock and bolt assembly of the German MP40. About 19,914 Mark I examples and 200 Mark II examples were built, and the weapon saw service with Australian forces, later Dutch East Indies units and Rhodesian forces, though it never matched the popularity of the rival Australian Owen gun.
