The AK-102 is a shortened carbine version of the AK-101 rifle, itself derived from the original AK-47 design through the AK-74 line. Designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov and produced by the Kalashnikov Concern, it is chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition and made exclusively for export. It uses a gas-operated rotating bolt action, weighs about 3.0 kilograms without a magazine, and has been in service since 2000 with an effective range of about 500 meters.
