AKM

The AKM is a Soviet 7.62 by 39 millimeter assault rifle designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov and introduced in 1959 as a lighter, more easily manufactured successor to the AK-47. Built in the Soviet Union at the Izhmash and Tula Arms Plant factories and later produced under license by numerous other countries, it became the most widely produced variant of the entire Kalashnikov family, with total production estimated above ten million units. It has remained in service since 1959 and stands as one of the most common rifles ever fielded in war.
