The Mateba Autorevolver, marketed as the Mateba Model 6 Unica, is a recoil operated semi-automatic revolver designed by Italian inventor Emilio Ghisoni and built by the Mateba company of Pavia, Italy, from 1997 to 2005. Unlike a conventional revolver, it uses the recoil of firing to rotate the cylinder and cock the hammer, and its barrel is aligned with the bottom rather than the top of the cylinder, lowering the bore axis and reducing muzzle flip. The upper assembly recoils about half an inch on firing, with the rearward stroke cocking the hammer and the forward stroke rotating the cylinder. Chambered in powerful calibers including .454 Casull, it has been called one of the most powerful semi-automatic handguns ever produced.
