The OTs-33 Pernach is a Russian machine pistol chambered for the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge, derived from the earlier 5.45mm OTs-23 Drotik machine pistol. It was designed to replace the Stechkin APS in various OMON units, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other paramilitary units. Igor Stechkin developed the OTs-33 in 1995 at the TsKIB SOO design bureau, and it went into production at the KBP Instrument Design Bureau. It is also known as the SBZ-2, a name drawn from the surnames of the KBP team responsible for it: Stechkin, Baltser and Zinchenko.
