M50 Reising

The M50 Reising is a .45 caliber submachine gun designed and patented by Eugene Reising in 1940 and manufactured by the Harrington and Richardson Arms Company of Worcester, Massachusetts. It cost far less than the Thompson submachine gun and was several pounds lighter, and its delayed-blowback, closed-bolt design gave it better accuracy than open-bolt rivals. More than 100,000 were ordered during the Second World War and it was first used in combat by United States Marines at Guadalcanal in August 1942, but reliability problems in the field led to its withdrawal from frontline Marine units by late 1943.
