MAT-49

The MAT-49 is a French submachine gun developed by the Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Tulle and first produced in 1949, chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge with some variants converted to 7.62x25mm Tokarev. It became the standard submachine gun of the French armed forces and saw extensive combat in the First Indochina War and the Algerian War before being phased out following the adoption of the FAMAS assault rifle in 1979. Beyond France it was used by more than forty nations and armed groups, including Algeria, Mali, Vietnam, Lebanon and Senegal.
