APS underwater rifle

The APS underwater rifle is an underwater firearm designed in the Soviet Union in the early 1970s by Vladimir Simonov and adopted in 1975. It is manufactured at the Tula Arms Plant and exported by Rosoboronexport, and it fires steel flechette projectiles rather than conventional bullets so it can operate effectively underwater. Its barrel is unrifled and relies on hydrodynamic effects to keep its flechettes stable underwater, a design that makes the weapon markedly less accurate when fired in air.
