The Winchester Model 30 was an experimental American self-loading rifle designed between 1939 and 1945 by Jonathan E. Browning for Winchester Repeating Arms, offered to the United States War Department as an alternative to the M1 Garand. Chambered in .30-06 Springfield and operated by a short-stroke gas piston, it was later modified to selective fire, but field trials favored the Garand and the design never advanced beyond prototypes before interest lapsed at the end of the Second World War.
