The Model 1872 revolver was the service sidearm of the Swiss Army, with about 600 units produced in Belgium by Pirlot Freres before it was refined into the Model 1872/78 revolver, made domestically by Waffenfabrik Bern. The original chambered a 10.4mm rimfire cartridge, while the 1872/78 refinement used a 10.4mm centerfire round, and both operated in single and double action with an individual ejector rod for cartridge ejection.
