Mauser C78 (Zig-Zag)

The Mauser C78, nicknamed the zig-zag revolver for the grooved zig-zag cam track cut into its cylinder, was a single action revolver designed by Peter-Paul Mauser and built by Mauser in Oberndorf am Neckar, Germany, from 1878 to 1896. Chambered in 7.92mm, 9mm, or 10.6mm with a six round cylinder and a 13.7 centimeter barrel, it weighed about 900 grams and is described in its own history as the first German revolver mass produced for modern centerfire cartridges. The German military rejected it in 1879 because its zig-zag drum was too difficult to manufacture, choosing the simpler M1879 Reichsrevolver instead, though the C78 remained in German service into the First World War.
