The Taurus Model 85 is a small frame, double or single action revolver built by Taurus International of Brazil and introduced in 1980, chambered for .38 Special +P ammunition in a five round cylinder with 2 or 3 inch barrel options. It is offered in blued steel, stainless steel, polymer and lightweight aluminum or titanium frames, fitted with a transfer bar safety and, from 1997 onward, Taurus's keyed Security System to block the hammer, and is marketed mainly for concealed carry and personal protection in the United States. A six round Model 856 followed in 2018, while an experimental 85VTA View model with a transparent side plate was discontinued in 2014 after a poor market reception.
