The CS/LR17, alongside its CS/LR18 sibling, is a Chinese family of modular, gas-operated automatic rifles made by Norinco and marketed by the Jianshe Industry Group, with development starting in 2014 based on the design of the FN SCAR series and the rifle first revealed publicly in November 2016. It has been produced since then in three calibers, 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm and 7.62x51mm, feeding from box magazines, with a muzzle velocity of about 900 meters per second and an effective range of roughly 500 meters. It was built mainly as an export-market alternative to other modern modular rifle platforms.
