Squad Advanced Marksman Rifle

The Squad Advanced Marksman Rifle, or SAM-R, is a semi-automatic designated marksman rifle developed by the United States Marine Corps to give infantry squads precision fire in support of an assault and to aid in observation and the adjustment of supporting arms. Roughly 100 examples were assembled by the Precision Weapons Section of the Weapons Training Battalion at Marine Corps Base Quantico beginning in 2001, and the rifle was issued to specific Marine Expeditionary Units for combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq before being retired in the mid-2010s in favor of the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle.
