The SIG GL 5040, also produced as the GL 5140, is a Swiss 40mm grenade launcher designed by SIG and manufactured by Swiss Arms, in service since 1997 and mounted under SIG SG 550 or SG 551 assault rifles for single-shot use. It fires 40x46mm grenades from a breech-loading barrel 305mm long, weighs 1.7 kilograms and has an effective firing range of about 200 meters with a muzzle velocity of 75 meters per second. The Swiss military issues it under the designation Gewehraufsatz 97, and Malaysias coast guard also uses it.
