The CZ 52, also known by the Czechoslovak military designation vz. 52, is a semi-automatic pistol designed by brothers Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvil in the early 1950s for the Czechoslovak military. Around 200,000 were made by Ceska Zbrojovka in Strakonice between 1952 and 1954, chambered for the 7.62x25mm vz. 52 cartridge, and it remained in service for roughly thirty years before being replaced by the 9x18mm Makarov-caliber vz. 82. The CZ 52 designation is commonly used to distinguish the pistol from the unrelated vz. 52 rifle.
