Beretta Model 38

The Beretta Model 38 is an Italian submachine gun designed by Beretta's chief engineer Tullio Marengoni in 1935 and introduced in 1938, chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. It first equipped Italian police units serving in Africa before wider adoption by elite formations of the Royal Italian Army during the Second World War, where it earned a reputation as the most successful and effective Italian small arm of the conflict. Production continued from 1938 until 1975, and the weapon was used well beyond Italy, including by Nazi Germany and Romania during the war and later by Argentina and other nations through the Cold War.
