The Denel Y3 AGL is a South African automatic grenade launcher currently produced by Denel Land Systems, originally developed by Aram Ltd as the AS88 infantry support system before being acquired and refined by Vektor, which later became part of Denel Ltd. It fires 40x53mm grenades in linked belts of 20 or 32 rounds, weighs 18 kilograms alone and 32 kilograms with its tripod, measures 844 millimeters with a 300 millimeter barrel, has a muzzle velocity of 242 meters per second, a maximum cyclic rate of fire of about 425 rounds per minute, a maximum range of 2,176 meters, and is operated by a crew of three using a long recoil, open breech action. It entered service after qualification testing in 1998 and operational testing in 2002, with its public debut at the 2003 UK Defence Systems and Equipment International Exhibition.
