The General Liu rifle was an early Chinese semi-automatic rifle designed by General Liu Qing En, the first superintendent of the Hanyang Arsenal, and built at the Hanyang Arsenal with equipment from Pratt and Whitney Machine Tool between 1914 and 1918. Chambered for the 7.92x57mm S-Patrone cartridge, it fed from a 6-round integral magazine and could switch between gas operation and a straight-pull bolt action by rotating a cylinder at the muzzle, using a muzzle gas-trap system similar to the Bang rifle. It weighed 4.7 kilograms empty, measured 122.5 centimeters overall with a 64.7 centimeter barrel, and fired at a muzzle velocity of about 780 meters per second. Only about ten rifles were ever produced, making it one of the rarest early Chinese self-loading rifle designs of the Republic of China period.
