All Assault Rifles of Russia and the Soviet Union

This is a child group of Assault Rifles, collecting the Small Arms And Sidearms subcategory's assault rifles whose own record traces them to Russia or the Soviet Union: the Kalashnikov lineage from the AK-47 and AKM through the AK-74, AK-100 and AK-12 export and service families, the balanced-action AEK-971 and AN-94, and later Kalashnikov Concern derivatives such as the AK-101 through AK-203. With 19 attested members this is the single largest country grouping under Assault Rifles, reflecting both the Kalashnikov design's own enormous production run and this atlas's own weapon-system coverage of its many numbered variants. A rifle only licensed or copied abroad from a Soviet or Russian design, rather than designed there, is classified under the licensing country instead, following the design's own stated country of origin.
