IOF .315 sporting rifle

The IOF .315 sporting rifle is a civilian bolt-action rifle produced from 1956 by India's Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli and the Rifle Factory Ishapore, adapted from the British military Lee-Enfield design. Because Indian gun control law bars civilians from owning military-caliber rifles, it was rechambered from the Lee-Enfield's standard .303 British round to the 8x50mmR Mannlicher cartridge and fitted with a 5-round box magazine for hunting use. The same factories had earlier built Lee-Enfield rifles for the British colonial Indian Army and its independent successor forces.
