Alexander the Great

King of Macedon from 336 BCE, who secured control of Greece within two years of taking the throne and then led a decade long campaign against the Persian Empire, defeating its armies and taking its territory city by city until Macedonian rule extended from Egypt to the Indus Valley. He personally led the cavalry in nearly every major battle, a practice that built strong loyalty among his troops.
