Mauritania-Senegal Border War

The Mauritania-Senegal Border War was fought along the shared border of Mauritania and Senegal from 1989 to 1991, arising from disputes over the River Senegal boundary and grazing rights, compounded by ethnic tension and economic and political crisis in Senegal. Senegal fought alongside FLAM, the African Liberation Forces of Mauritania, against Mauritania, and the war ended in a Mauritanian victory. The conflict severed diplomatic relations between the two countries for several years, produced thousands of refugees on both sides, and had a significant effect on Senegalese domestic politics.
