Slovenian War of Independence

The Slovenian War of Independence, also called the Ten-Day War, was fought in June and July 1991 after Slovenia declared independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav People's Army launched a limited intervention intended to reassert federal control, but met determined and effective resistance from Slovenian territorial defense forces over roughly ten days of fighting. The conflict ended through the European Community-mediated Brioni Agreement, under which Yugoslav forces withdrew from Slovenia entirely, making it the shortest and least destructive of the wars that accompanied Yugoslavia's breakup.
