Khoikhoi-Dutch Wars

The Khoikhoi-Dutch Wars were a series of armed conflicts fought in the second half of the seventeenth century at the Cape of Good Hope, in the area of present-day Cape Town, South Africa, between Dutch East India Company settlers and the indigenous Khoikhoi. Disputes over land and livestock ownership, following the Company's permanent settlement of the Cape from 1652 onward, escalated into violent attacks and counterattacks. The First Khoikhoi-Dutch War was fought from 1659 to 1660 and the Second from 1673 to 1677, and both ended in defeat for the Khoikhoi.
