Falarica

The falarica, also spelled phalarica, was an ancient Iberian ranged polearm sometimes used as an incendiary weapon. It was employed by the Iberians, including in conflicts against Carthaginian forces, with archaeological remains found in Iberian and Celtiberian deposits dating from the 3rd century BC to the 1st century AD. It consisted of a heavy javelin with a long, thin iron head about 900 millimeters long attached to a wooden shaft of roughly equal length, its narrow sharp tip effective for piercing armor. Iberians bound combustible material to the metal shaft and used the falarica as an incendiary projectile against enemy shields and siege works, and it could also be launched with spear throwers or siege engines to extend its range.
