Gun (staff)

The gun, also called bang, is a long Chinese staff weapon and one of the four major weapons of Chinese martial arts, traditionally known as the grandfather of all weapons. It is typically cut to match the height or reach of its user, roughly six feet, with a thick base end and a thinner tip, and modern competition versions are made of wax wood, rattan or carbon fiber for flexibility. Practiced widely across Chinese martial arts styles such as Shaolin, Taiji and Bagua, and known in Vietnam as con through Chinese cultural influence, it was adopted as one of four main weapon events at the 1991 World Wushu Championships.
