Roaring Meg is the name given to several powerful cannons used in the 17th century, not to be confused with the medieval bombard Mons Meg preserved at Edinburgh Castle. The best-documented Roaring Meg is a mortar cast at the Howbrook furnace and forge near Lydbrook, England, in 1646, with a barrel 15.5 inches in diameter that fired a hollow, gunpowder-filled ball weighing about 220 pounds; it has been on display at Goodrich Castle since 2004.
