A guisarme, sometimes spelled gisarme or bisarme, is a polearm used in Europe primarily between 1000 and 1400, likely of Germanic origin from the Old High German getisarn, literally weeding iron. As with many medieval polearms, its exact early form is hard to define from surviving literary references, and identification of surviving weapons as guisarmes can be speculative.
