A kilij is a type of one-handed, single-edged, curved scimitar used by the Seljuk Empire, the Timurid Empire, the Mamluk Empire, the Ottoman Empire and other Turkic khanates of the Eurasian steppe and Turkestan. The blade developed from earlier Turko-Mongol sabers already in use across lands controlled or influenced by Turkic peoples.
