The VSK-94 is a Russian designated marksman rifle chambered in 9x39mm, developed at the KBP Instrument Design Bureau by Vasily Gryazev as a variant of the 9A-91 assault rifle and manufactured at the Tula Arms Plant. Conceived as a cheaper alternative to the VSS Vintorez, it uses a similar heavy subsonic round for quiet, armor-penetrating fire at moderate range, but unlike the VSS its suppressor is a separate, non-integrated unit rather than part of the barrel assembly. It entered service in 1994 and remains in use. This description is adapted from Wikipedia contributors under CC BY-SA 4.0; changes were made. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

How does the VSK-94 relate to the VSS Vintorez?
It is a cheaper 9x39mm silenced sniper rifle built on the 9A-91 carbine body.
The VSS Vintorez of 1987 proved excellent as a silenced sniper rifle but was an expensive end product for Russian special forces and internal security elements. In the 1990s the KBP Instrument Design Bureau reused proven elements of that design for the VSK-94, which fires the same subsonic 9x39mm cartridge but is built on the receiver and box magazine of the 9A-91 assault carbine.
