The Bofors 40 mm gun is a family of 40 millimeter automatic anti-aircraft guns designed and built by the Swedish company Bofors, with the original L/43 model developed in the 1930s and introduced in 1934. The related L/60 model reached the market in 1936, and both saw extensive combat use through the Second World War and beyond, into the 1990s in some services. A further-developed L/70 model followed in 1948 and remained a significant anti-aircraft weapon throughout the Cold War, continuing in use today.
