M240 Machine Gun

Machine Guns And Automatic Weapons

The M240 is the United States military's designation for the FN MAG, a family of belt fed, gas operated medium machine guns chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, originally designed in Belgium and currently manufactured for American use by U.S. Ordnance in Reno, Nevada and by FN America, the American subsidiary of FN Herstal. The U.S. armed forces have fielded it since the late 1970s, adopting it in 1977 as the Army's standard coaxial machine gun for tanks and armored vehicles. FAQs

What is the difference between the M240B and the M240G?

The M240B adds a molded heat shield over the barrel; otherwise the two are virtually identical.

The two are very close. The M240G is the version adopted by the United States Marine Corps, and the M240B differs mainly in that it adds a molded heat shield over the barrel. Beyond that feature, the two weapons remained virtually identical to one another.
