The Desert Tech MDR is a bullpup semi-automatic rifle built around a gas-piston, rotating-bolt operating system, developed by the American company Desert Tech, formerly Desert Tactical Arms, and first shown publicly at the 2014 SHOT Show before entering production for its original variant from 2017 to 2019. It features ambidextrous charging handles, safety levers, and magazine releases, forward ejection with a tool-free ejection port conversion, and a modular caliber-conversion system that lets the same receiver chamber both intermediate rounds such as 5.56mm NATO and full-power rounds such as .308 Winchester, built with an impact-resistant polymer exterior over an aluminum receiver. A second-generation MDRx variant launched in 2020 with refined ergonomics and expanded caliber options, and the original MDR was discontinued on January 18, 2024, ahead of a successor platform called the WLVRN.
