It was first tested on November 15, 2011, and achieved operational status following successful user trials by India's Strategic Forces Command in 2014. The missile uses a two-stage solid propellant rocket motor built from composite materials, has an operational range of about 4,000 kilometers, can carry conventional or nuclear warheads, and is launched from road-mobile platforms.
