The Federal Army was the army of Mexico from 1876 to 1914, serving under President Porfirio Díaz and then under the presidencies of Francisco I. Madero and Victoriano Huerta. Its senior officers were largely veterans of the wars against the French Intervention and were mostly old men by 1910, so when rebellions broke out after the fraudulent elections of that year the army proved unable to respond effectively. Madero kept the Federal Army in place rather than relying on the revolutionaries and used it against the rebellions of Pascual Orozco and Emiliano Zapata. After Huerta ousted Madero in 1913 it fought on for his regime, and it ceased to exist when revolutionary armies forced Huerta out in July 1914 and the Teoloyucan Treaties were signed. It was disbanded on 13 August 1914 and replaced by the Constitutionalist Army of Venustiano Carranza.
