The Marmon-Herrington armoured car was a series of armoured vehicles produced in South Africa and adopted by the British Army during the Second World War. They were also issued to Royal Air Force armoured car companies, which seem never to have used them in action, preferring Rolls-Royce armoured cars and other types. The vehicles were built on a four-wheel-drive layout with a Ford V-8 petrol engine of about 95 horsepower, a crew of three to four, armour up to 20 millimetres and a top speed near 50 miles per hour. The Mark IV and IVF carried a 2-pounder gun with one or two 7.62 mm Browning machine guns. Production ran from 1940 to 1944 with about 5,746 built by several makers, and the type served in several later conflicts into the 1990s.
