BTR (vehicle)

BTR, from the Russian Bronetransportyor meaning armored transporter, is the name given to a series of Soviet and post Soviet wheeled armored personnel carriers produced from the 1950s onward, beginning with the BTR-40 and continuing through later designs such as the BTR-60, BTR-70, BTR-80 and BTR-82. Vehicles bearing the BTR name have been built by Soviet, and later Russian and Ukrainian, manufacturers including the Kharkiv Morozov Design Bureau, and the line remains in production and widespread service with the armed forces of Russia, Ukraine and many other countries that received Soviet era military aid.
