The Battle of Sekigahara was fought on 21 October 1600 in what is now Gifu Prefecture, Japan, between the Western Army loyal to Ishida Mitsunari and the Eastern Army loyal to Tokugawa Ieyasu, at the end of the Sengoku period. Ieyasu's Eastern Army won a decisive victory, and the battle gave the Tokugawa clan nominal control of all Japan, opening the way to the Tokugawa shogunate.
