The Battle of the Bulge, also called the Ardennes Offensive, was a major World War II campaign on the Western Front from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945, fought in the Ardennes region of Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany between the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada and Belgium on one side and Germany on the other. Germany aimed to split the Allied lines and seize the port of Antwerp; after achieving early tactical surprise, German forces reached their furthest advance near Dinant before being halted, and the campaign ended in an Allied victory.
