AirLand Battle was the overall conceptual framework behind the US Army's European warfighting doctrine from 1982 into the late 1990s, first published in the 1982 edition of Field Manual 100-5. It called for deep, simultaneous attack against an enemy's follow-on echelons, together with the close battle at the front line, to defeat a numerically superior Warsaw Pact attacker before its full strength could reach the front.
