United States Marine Raider Stiletto

The United States Marine Raider stiletto is a fighting knife introduced in 1942 and designed by Lieutenant Colonel Clifford H. Shuey of the US Marine Corps, patterned after the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife already used at commando training centers. Built by the Camillus Cutlery Company for close quarters killing, with a design its own history describes as uncompromised for any other purpose, it had a tapered double edged blade with a diamond shaped cross section and weighed half a pound, and was issued to Marine Raiders and other elite US Marine units as well as the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. Only 14,370 were made, far fewer than the 2.5 million M3 fighting knives issued in the same war, and its zinc aluminum hilt tends to become brittle as the zinc leaches out over time, making surviving examples rare collectibles today.
