The Mk 19 is an American 40x53mm belt-fed automatic grenade launcher first developed during the Vietnam War as a fully automatic successor to the earlier hand-cranked Mk 18. It was designed at the Naval Ordnance Station in Louisville, with George M. Chinn credited as designer, and is produced today by Saco Defense Industries, a division of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems. The weapon has been in United States service since 1968 and is used by the armed forces of roughly thirty other countries, including Australia, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and Turkey.
