Aircraft Machine Guns

Machine guns designed to be fixed in a wing or fuselage or flexibly mounted in an aircraft, including the Japanese Type 89 and Type 92, the German MG 17 and the Soviet PV-1. A weapon belongs here when its cited article describes it as an aircraft, aerial or airborne machine gun. It excludes ground machine guns that were only adapted to aircraft later. Aircraft machine guns had to be light, fast-firing and synchronized with propellers or fixed in wings, so designs from Japan, Germany and the Soviet Union differ from the ground weapons they were derived from.
