Ancient War Chariots and Elephants

The vehicles and animals that carried armies into battle before the age of heavy cavalry, horse-drawn war chariots and trained war elephants. A weapon belongs here when its cited article describes it as a chariot or as an elephant trained for combat. It excludes infantry weapons and siege engines. Chariots and elephants were shock weapons and command platforms in the armies of Egypt, the Near East, Persia, India, Carthage and Rome, and their use faded as cavalry, pikes and missile troops learned to counter them.
