Rocket Artillery

Rocket artillery fires unguided or guided rockets in salvos from a launcher on a truck, tracked chassis or trailer, covering a wide area quickly. A weapon belongs here when the infobox of its cited article names it a multiple rocket launcher. It excludes tube artillery such as howitzers and mortars. Weapons in this group are placed by what their own cited article states, so a visitor browsing rocket artillery sees only systems whose sources name that role, and can compare them across eras, makers and the forces that used them.

The Congreve rocket was a type of rocket artillery designed by British inventor Sir William Congreve in 1808. The design was based upon the rockets deployed by the Kingdom of Mysore against the East India Company during the 1790s, several of which were sent to Great Britain after 1799. The project was continued chiefly with William Congreve, who set up a research and development programme at the Woolwich Arsenal's laboratory.
