Operation Nimrod was the British Special Air Service assault that ended the Iranian Embassy siege in London on 5 May 1980. Two SAS teams stormed the embassy at 16 Prince's Gate, one abseiling from the roof and the other blasting through first-floor windows, in a raid lasting seventeen minutes. The assault rescued all but one of the remaining hostages and killed five of the six gunmen; one SAS soldier was wounded.
