This group collects the Missiles And Guided Munitions subcategory's ballistic missiles: intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) capable of intercontinental range, together with medium-range, intermediate-range, short-range and tactical or theater ballistic missiles of shorter reach. With 70 attested members this is the largest single subtype in the subcategory, spanning road-mobile and silo-based land systems and submarine-launched variants from multiple nuclear and conventional missile powers. A ballistic missile follows a largely unpowered, gravity-driven trajectory after boost, distinguishing it from the powered, guided flight of the cruise missiles and air-to-ground missiles classified in this atlas's sibling groups.
